These beautiful baskets are handwoven by women in rural villages in Kenya. Basket weaving has become more and more important, as their income from agriculture is becoming scarce due to increasing droughts in the region.
Thin sisal fibers are dyed, rolled to twine on their lap and carefully woven into a stunning basket. Only natural dyes are used, extracted from tree barks, soil and roots. It is a very time consuming process.
